A Vedic birth chart, or kundli, is a map of the sky at the exact moment and location of your birth. Unlike Western astrology, which uses the tropical zodiac aligned to the seasons, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac — calculated against the actual, current position of the stars. This makes Vedic charts significantly more precise for predicting timing and life events.
The chart is divided into 12 houses, each governing a different area of life: the first house represents your personality and physical body, the seventh house governs relationships and partnerships, the tenth house rules career and public life, and so on. The position of each planet within these houses at your moment of birth determines the quality of that area of your life.
In addition to houses, each planet occupies a sign (or rashi). The sign modifies the way a planet expresses its energy. A strong Jupiter in a friendly sign in the ninth house, for instance, indicates good fortune, spiritual inclination, and possible higher education. A debilitated Saturn in the seventh house, on the other hand, may indicate delays or challenges in marriage.
One of the most powerful features of Vedic astrology is the Dasha system — a cycle of planetary periods that shows which planet is influencing your life at any given time. A 16-year Saturn Dasha will feel very different from a 6-year Venus Dasha, and the Dasha periods allow a Vedic astrologer to make precise predictions about when major life events are likely to occur.
For the most accurate chart, you will need your exact date of birth, time of birth (to the minute, if possible), and the city or town where you were born. If your birth time is unknown, it is still possible to conduct a reading, though the house placements — and therefore the timing predictions — will be less precise.
If you would like a personal Vedic birth chart reading, I offer in-person consultations in Perth and WhatsApp video sessions for clients worldwide. Every reading begins with a careful analysis of your chart before we discuss your specific questions and life situation.
